Joyce Catherine Morrissey, who was serving as a board member of the Friends of the Glendale Public Library, passed away in November 2016 after suffering several health setbacks. She was an articulate and vociferous defender of our organization and the Glendale Public Library. She was also active and vocal in other organizations: Past State President and Founder Fellow of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women; Past Board Member, and Lifetime Member of the Los Angeles Girl Scout Council; Past Board Member of the Downtown Women’s Center. She attended the 4th International Women’s Conference in Beijing, and in 1989 was honored as Woman of the Year by the Commission on the Status of Women, Los Angeles County. She was a member of Uni-Fem, UNA, and was the first woman president of the Board at First Congregational Church, Los Angeles.
A long time insurance broker with Cass & Johansing, she was proud of being the oldest licensed female insurance broker in California, spanning a career of over 50 years. A memorial service was held December 3, 2016.
